Spring Playoff News

NOTES FOR PLAYOFFS

Each week we have included the roster rules with the schedule. They will be strictly enforced for playoffs. As the captain of your team, it has been your responsibility each week to make sure the sign in sheets were filled out correctly. If an issue arises with your roster during playoffs, we will go to the sheets and check. If the player(s) are not correctly signed in on the amount of sheets that are required to be eligible for playoffs, you will lose the protest.
 
If you protest a rule or another teams roster, there are instructions on how to do so in the rules that can be found on the website (under Player Zone).
 
If your teams roster is being questioned, I would advise you not to use the player in question unless you are 100 percent certain you will not lose the protest.
 
8-Man “D” Division- There is no option for a stiff arm at the coin-toss in playoffs. The “D” Division does not allow stiff arms.
ALL Nassau 8-Man- Eisenhower and Mitchel are closed due to cricket. This means we have to use alternate fields. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Scheduling- There are no more weeks off (other than what was previously scheduled). I have accommodated everyone all season, but we are up against it now. So if you cannot play your scheduled game for any reason, you will have to forfeit.
Licenses- Everyone must bring a valid ID in case there is a roster protest. Please make sure ALL of your players know. There are no exceptions or excuses.

 

TIME REQUESTS FOR PLAYOFFS- We will try our best to accommodate your needs each week. Unlike the regular season, it is not as easy to move things around. You have to play at your scheduled time. If you cannot play, it will be up to your opponent if they take a forfeit win or can double/triple up the following week.

6.     ROSTERS: ROSTERS ARE LOCKED. If a player has not legibly signed himself in to at least 4 games, he is not eligible for playoffs. Players must be present at minimum of 4 games to be eligible for post – season. Player must obtain release from previous coach before jumping teams during first 5 weeks and he cannot go to lower division. No player can play on more than one team regardless of division (can result in player suspension and/or team forfeit). A player CAN play 8-man and 5-man. Injured players receive attendance credit by printing their name on the weekly sign-in sheet and writing “IR” next to it. Weekly sign-in sheet MUST be filled out at field, not before. Late arriving players cannot play until they sign-in & time-out must be used. However, a player may sign in on the other team’s timeout, an official’s timeout or at the 2 minute warning. Players must show Driver’s License at all post season games.

SPRING 2024 WEEKNIGHT FINALS

In the “A” Division, NARPS and Degenerates played a best 2 out of 3 series for the Championship. The Degenerates won Games 2 & 3 to take home the title LIFFL SPRING 2024 WEEKNIGHT 5-MAN “A” CHAMPIONS

In The “B” Division, Sofa Goats defeated Pine Street in the Championship to capture the “B” Title.

 

2024 SUPER BOWL SUNDAY EVENT – FEB 11th (RESULTS)

31 Teams battled it out in 3 divisions on Sunday. The A Division was an insane gauntlet of recent champions that included the best of the best of Long Island 5-man Teams. In the end it was another round of LI’s biggest 5-man rivalry game with the Narps defeating the Degenerates in OT to win the cash prize. The B Division was stacked with championship teams from 8-man skill players, Sunday League A/B teams, and weeknight teams. The Other guys took home the cash prize by defeating Sofa King in the Final. The C Division had 14 teams. From young kids to old veterans and everywhere in between. In the end it was the old vets in the chip as the Untouchables defeated Crush for the Trophies!

2024 LIFFL “SUPER BOWL SUNDAY EVENT”

 

The LIFFL will once again be holding our Annual NFL Super Bowl Sunday 5-Man Event. The games will begin at 8:00 AM, and we have enough field space to ensure that everyone has a safe Sunday and also makes it home with plenty of time to get ready for the big game!

Our 2024 Spring ADULT LEAGUE SEASON kicks off on Sunday, March 17th & 24th (your choice) on fields throughout Nassau & Suffolk Counties!

Our Spring Sunday Adult league will be offering a guaranteed 9 game season, 8 regular season games and EVERYONE makes the playoffs! Sunday 8-Man(Open hand blocking) divisions are available in B/C/D division levels based on ability.  Sunday 5-Man(No blocking) divisions are available in A/B/C divisions based on ability.

Our Weeknight SPRING league will be offering a guaranteed 6 game season, 5 regular season games and EVERYONE makes the playoffs! Games are Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. 5-Man(No blocking) divisions are available in B/C divisions based on ability.

NOTES-

SUNDAY LEAGUE- To Celebrate our 40 year anniversary, we will be hosting a Nassau vs Suffolk All-Star game at the end of the season. We will have a 5-man and an 8-man game after the Championship games. Players selected will receive All-Star T-shirts that represent their county/team. 

  • NEW TEAMS- $50 Deposit required to be put on the schedule

 

  • NEW RULES- WEEKNIGHT 5-MAN ONLY- When playing with a 2 second delayed rush, the defense will have ONE BLITZ (no count) every set of downs.  After registration for the Sunday league is complete, teams will vote to decide if they want to implement the weeknight blitz rule into the Sunday league. Same for the question of POP FLAGS in A/B.

 

  • Teams that choose a later start date than March 17th (or the week of) will have to do a double header one week to catch up. Weeknight teams that start later than the week of the 17th, will have to play on multiple nights one week to catch up.

 

  • If team fees are not paid before the season, HALF is owed at your 1st game. The 2nd half must be paid before the 3rd game, either in cash at the field or on the PayPal link on the website. We use a 1st come/ 1st serve system, so teams that pay in full before the season will be given priority when it comes to time and field requests that we are able to accommodate. 

 

 

2023 OYSTER BAY TOWN/NFL FLAG FOOTBALL LIFFL SPRING SEASON NON-CONTACT REGISTRATION. REGISTRATION FOR TEAMS ONLY BEGINS 1/1/23! SPRING SEASON KICKS OFF 3/5/23!

4/23-   We will attempt to play ALL games as scheduled!!
Turf fields are obviously 100% fine!  Cantiague, Field of Dreams, Roslyn HS, & Commack Middle are all 100% playing.
Grass fields should be OK. The fields have been very dry so they’ve absorbed a lot of water. The Grass Field referees will make every effort to get these games in
as well! If any grass fields are unplayable we’ll contact the affected teams via email. We should be ok though.

 

The NFL FLAG Program along with the Long Island Flag Football League will once again for our 30th year offer zero-contact NFL Flag for boys & girls TEAMS, in separate divisions,  ages 5-17 years old at fields across Nassau County the Town of Oyster Bay. Last year’s program was a huge success with over 265 teams and over 3000 participants learning & enjoying Flag Football in a safe, NO CONTACT format. All games last one(1) hour and are played on Sundays sometime between 9AM-5PM beginning March 5th, at fields closest to where your team lives. The team fee is $1900 and that covers up to 11 players. You can choose to have under 11 players but the fee is still $1900 for the team.  Each child you add over the original 11 player fee  is an additional $170 per player.  You may assemble a team of whomever you like…..existing sports teams…friends…classmates. It’s your team. We will have Free Agents(unaffiliated with any team) for you to choose from should you need additional players to fill out your roster. If your child does not have a team please read info at bottom of this page regarding Free Agents.  NYS certified H.S. football officials are used and alternate play-dates are available for any Sunday game that conflict with religious holidays. There is ZERO blocking in flag football so it doesn’t require week-night practices that infringe upon a student’s homework/study time. There are six regular season games followed by play-offs(everyone makes the playoffs) and a Super Bowl. The season kicks-off Sunday March 5th. This program is not affiliated with any school districts. Cut-off date for Registration is February 22nd. The divisions are : 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14, & 17U. Your team’s correct division is based on your players ages as of 12/31/22.

The price per team is $1900 ($1976 if using PayPal due to fees). Each team receives NFL FLAG jerseys, flag belts, and balls. To register your team, just mail your Coach Contact Info, Division desired, a roster of players with emails, and  your check to(made out to “LIFFL”): LIFFL, PO BOX 518, BETHPAGE, NY 11714.

FREE AGENTS- Just fill out the “REGISTRATION FORM”(https://liffl.com/youth/youth-league-registration/), do not pay!! You will pay($170) once you’ve been added to a team. Where it says “Coach Requested” write “FREE AGENT.” If you’re willing to Coach an assembled team of Free Agents please indicate that on your Registration Form. Don’t forget, you can also assemble your own new team!

REST IN PEACE DAN ALVINO

With a broken heart, the league must announce the passing of Dan Alvino today. Dan was the 2nd Head of Officials for the LIFFL, serving in that capacity from 1992-2012. He was a Men’s League Head Referee from 1990-2019 for the Suffolk Division. Beloved by players and referees alike, Dan took over the LIFFL referees in its early days and turned it into the best Officials Organization in the Flag Football world. He served also as a crew chief “white hat” for Section 11(Suffolk High Schools) for 40 years. He is survived by his wife Claire, children Steven, Joseph, and Tracy, as well as numerous grandchildren. Commissioner George Higgins said “Dan was a Long Island Football Icon. Football on Long Island will never be the same without him.”
