LIFFL TEAMS BALL OUT IN USFTL NATIONALS

Here on Long Island, we only play two styles of Flag Football, “Ineligible Flag (8/9-man)” and “5-Man”. Two Long Island teams went to the USFTL Nationals down in Tampa this weekend to play in the biggest National Tournament ever (over 425 teams). MAIN EVENT took home the 9-Man Championship, and the SI 49ers came in second place in 5-Man in just their 1st National Tournament. #LONGISLANDSTANDUP #USFTL #LIFFL #FFWCT

SPRING 2016 RULE CHANGES

THE FOLLOWING NEW RULES WILL BE USED STARTING WEEK #1 OF THE SPRING 2016 SEASON. THESE RULES DO NOT APPLY TO THE WINTER LEAGUE, OR THE WINTER NATIONALS TOURNAMENT ON JAN 9th & 10th.

All Coaches,

First of all, I hope you had a safe and happy Holiday season!

Last Summer we polled coaches for potential rule changes. As a result the following rule changes will take place in 2016:

1) Interceptions will no longer be dead in the end zone. They will be allowed to be run out of the end zone. Also, interceptions on 2-pt conversions can be run back for 2 pts in both 8-Man and 5-Man.

2) Coaches will receive Referee Rating emails prior to the season. At the toss each referee will introduce themselves by name and the coaches will email the rating at the conclusion of each week. The ratings will be used to decide which referees work the post-season and which referees become Head Officials. Ratings will also be used to terminate low ranked Officials.

3) Matching color numbered jerseys must be worn at all games. The Under Armour contract has been renewed so inexpensive t-shirt style jerseys will be an option. It looks ragtag and the referees have too much confusion officiating games with cut-offs and different colored shirts.

4) The defensive line in the 8-Man “B” Division will be allowed to line up where it chooses.

5) At the 2016 Summer National Tournament teams will have the option of playing at Stillwell Park or individual turf fields. All tournament games will have two(2) 22 minute halves with a half time.

Have a happy & healthy New Year!

George Higgins
Commissioner

The ‪#‎LIFFL‬ 5-Man ALL-STAR Game was played today:

The Nassau 5-Man team was led by QB’s Brian Alfieri ‪#SI49ers‬ and Ed Healy ‪#‎Warriors‬. Despite Nassau taking an early lead, the SUFFOLK / NIGHT LEAGUE ALL-STARS came back and won the game 32-26. QB’s Alex “Action” Brosnan ‪#‎WastedBalls‬ and Evan Galinsky ‪#‎WhoCares‬ led the Suffolk/Night League team to victory. A big pick 6 by PJ Melfie turned the tides for Suffolk!

FALL 2015 8-MAN LIFFL ALL-STAR GAME

The ‪‎LIFFL‬ 8-Man ALL-STAR game was played today:

Nassau captain Mike Lupa ‪#‎Phantoms‬ and Ryan Heller ‪#‎FSU‬ led the way taking it to Suffolk early on, but Suffolk bounced back with QB Brian Calhoun ‪#‎Rampage‬ throwing multiple touchdowns to Walter Miles ‪#‎Elite‬ and securing Suffolk’s overtime victory 40-34. D-lineman Billy Carpenter ‪#‎SonsOfThunder‬ recorded the key sacks which allowed Suffolk to make the comeback!
